Windows 7 changing ET Config file

Hey guys thought I would share this with you in case anybody has the same problems I had.

I've not long had windows 7 and was getting kicked for hunk alloc errors all the time. I tried to set hunkmegs to 128 in game console but it didn't work. Then I tried to change it by editing my ET config file but it wouldn't let me save the file as I needed administrator rights even though I am the administrator!!

Anyway, I managed to get it sorted in the end by choosing Start, All Programs, then right click on notepad and choose "run as administrator" then open ET config file from within notepad (File, Open, search for ET Config file) then edit the hunkmeg settings to 128 and save the file. I then had to close notepad then open it again as administrator (same as above) so that I could edit the hunkmegs in my No Quarter ET config file to 128 as well.

All is fine now but Windows 7 is tricky as it doesn't just let you edit things normally. Too much security!

Hope this is helpful if you upgrade to Windows 7.

Good info, I'm using Windows 7 and I had these kinds of problems too. I got kicked every time a song started, but it's been sorted out now!
I have windows 7 64 and have no troubles run wonderful

Just turn off the security things (basic win 7)
well, it is just athing as running et as administrator. That should fix the most issues on windows 7, im running 7 too and i dont have problems since i run it as administrator
Thanks for the replies guys.

I am running windows 7 64 also and I do run ET as administrator but I still had the hunk alloc issues and this was the only way I was able to edit the ET Config files to get them to set to 128. Anyway, all is good now!

Thanks again,

Bogart.
got win 7... no probs here....
I don't know what it is then if no-one else had any problems. I am also running windows essentials for my anti virus etc so maybe that was stopping me from editing the ET Config file.
I had problems too. I copied my config files to another folder, edited them there and then pasted them back into the ET folder. I had to give administrative approval to do so, but then it was fixed.
Glad it's not just me then Retro  😃

I was beginning to think I was more stupid than I actually am  😆
I also started using windows 7 since meeting and never had any troubles with it and find it runs as well as any previous os I every had. Just be sure to change the properties to run et.exe as administrator. Conversely even though your user account is an addministrataor account, it is by default a limited administrator account. I never experienced the problems but yes it was an annoyance editing the autoexec, best thing to do is just change the permissions.

Explorer > ETMain > Autoexec.cfg > Right Click > Properties > Security Tab > Edit> Click Users(ComputerName\users) > Place a Check Mark Beside (Full Controll) > OK > OK

If you copied your configs or binds from a backup or another install, you might have to take ownership of the file before applying permissions.

Explorer > ETMain > Autoexec.cfg > Right Click > Properties > Security Tab > Advanced > Owner Tab > Edit > Click OK for UAC Prompt > Select Users(ComputerName\users) > OK > OK > OK
