Installation guide — Enemy Territory: Old Front 1.0.21

You only need one file. Once it is installed you can play right away: no patch, no files to overwrite, no settings to change.

1. Choose your version

• ET-Old-Front-setup-1.0.21-clean.zip — the game itself. This is all you need to play.
• ET-Old-Front-setup-1.0.21-with-tools.zip — the game plus our tools, such as the ET Minimizer, the ETKey Tool and the Nickname generator.
• Unpack the ZIP: right-click → Extract All, then start the installer inside the folder.

2. Check the file (optional, but wise)

Open Command Prompt in the folder where you downloaded the file and type:

certutil -hashfile ET-Old-Front-setup-1.0.21-clean.zip SHA256

This is what you should see:

In the game folder you will also find verify\manifest-sha256.txt with the hash of every game file, so you can always check that your files are complete.

3. Start the installer — a warning from Windows or your antivirus?

That is normal for a brand-new installer and it does not mean the file is dangerous. Our installer is not (yet) signed with a paid certificate, so Windows and antivirus programs see a file they have never seen before.

• Windows: More info → Run anyway
• Symantec/Norton: Allow this file
• Chrome or Edge: Keep

Never switch off your antivirus — just allow this one file.

4. Installing

1. Double-click the installer in the unpacked folder.
2. Choose the folder where you want the game, or keep the suggested folder.
3. Click Install and then Finish.
4. There is now a shortcut on your desktop.

There is nothing to install afterwards: the 2.60 patch and all game files are already included.

5. Playing

1. Start the game with the shortcut on your desktop.
2. Pick a server from the list — our BraveHeart servers are in there — and play.

6. Not running the way it should?

• Check your game files with verify\manifest-sha256.txt in the game folder.
• Download the package again from the downloads section: a half-downloaded file is the most common cause.
• Report it on our forum or in Discord, mentioning the version (1.0.21) and your Windows version.

Installation guide — ET Nickname Tool 1.0.0

A small program that builds Enemy Territory names with colour codes. You see straight away what the name looks like, and you paste it into the game. No installation needed.

1. Unpack and start

• Unpack the ZIP: right-click → Extract All.
• Start etnickname.exe. On 64-bit Windows you can also use etnickname-x64.exe; both do the same.
• Nothing is installed. The settings live in etnickname.ini next to the program — that is where you pick the language too.

2. Making your name

• Type your name in the input field.
• Click a colour code; it lands exactly where the cursor is. Under More colours you will find letters and symbols too.
• Click Copy name, or Copy command if you want the console line seta name "…".

3. Putting your name in the game

• Press ~ in the game for the console, paste the command and press Enter. Or set the name via Options → Game → Player Alias.
• Note: Enemy Territory cuts the name off above 36 characters. Colour codes count towards that.

4. Check the file (optional, but wise)

Open Command Prompt in the folder where you downloaded the file and type:

5. A warning from Windows or your antivirus?

ETKey Tool - step by step

PunkBuster no longer creates etkey files. Without an etkey you get no GUID and you cannot play on PunkBuster servers. This small tool creates one for you.

1. Start etkeytool.exe. Is your game in Program Files? Choose Run as administrator.
2. Pick your game folder in the list (the line with [ET.exe found]) and click Save in this folder.
3. Start Enemy Territory and enable PunkBuster via Play Online. Done.

Note: already had an etkey? The tool keeps it automatically as etkey-backup-…. Never share your etkey: it is your XP, your admin level and your reputation on every server.

Red warning from Windows or from your virus scanner?

1. Windows SmartScreen: click More info and then Run anyway. The program is not signed, which is why Windows warns once.
2. Virus scanner: put the file or the folder on the exceptions list. In Windows Defender: Settings → Privacy & security → Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Add or remove exclusions → File or folder.
3. In doubt? Compare the checksum (SHA-256) with the one on the download page. If it matches, the file was not altered on the way.

etmin-w11 — Minimize Enemy Territory

With etmin-w11 you send Enemy Territory to the taskbar with a single key and bring it back again — even when the game runs fullscreen. It works on Windows 10 and Windows 11. All you need is etmin-w11.exe (download above); no installation required.

Install and start

1. Put etmin-w11.exe in a folder, for example C:\Games\etmin-w11.
2. Double-click etmin-w11.exe. A tray icon appears at the bottom right. Can’t see it? Click the ^ arrow.
3. Start Enemy Territory and press Alt+Z: the game goes to the taskbar. Press Alt+Z again: it comes back.

Note: leave etmin-w11 running before you start the game.

If Alt+Z does nothing

Then Alt+Z is already taken, usually by the NVIDIA overlay. Two options:

• Right-click the tray icon and see which key works now: the program picks a free key itself (often Alt+X).
• Or use the sequence: right-click the tray icon → Two-key sequence. Then press Alt+Z followed by M.

Does the game run as administrator? Run etmin-w11 as administrator too (right-click → Run as administrator).

Still stuck?

Right-click the tray icon → Diagnose. A report is written to etmin-w11.log (next to the exe). Post that file on the forum and we’ll help you further.

BH Double Bind Script

This is the BraveHeart double bind script.

1. Extract the ZIP file into your Enemy Territory etmain folder.
2. Delete the ZIP file after extracting it.
3. Start Enemy Territory and join one of the BraveHeart servers.
4. Open the in-game console with the ~ key and type:

/exec bhbinds.cfg

After running this command, the bind script is active and you can use the configured binds.

You can open the included .cfg files with Notepad to view or edit them. You can also print the .cfg files if you want a reference of the keys used by the bind script.
